Safeguarding (and my commitment to knowledge development)

Safeguarding is something that I believe passionately in, after all, is there anything more important?

I have held a number of roles over the years, both in paid employment and as a volunteer.

I am currently the safeguarding officer for the East Midlands Archery Society, a position that I have held since 1st July 2019.

In November 2023 I became a White Ribbon UK champion – the role is to support the work, helping to engage with men and work within communities. Women who are champions are an essential part of White Ribbon, ensuring that the voices of women, especially survivors of violence and abuse, are heard.

Whilst doing the required safeguarding requirements set out by Archery GB, my day job sees me being level 2 police vetted, which exceeds the usual DBS checking I already hold.

As it has long since been an area that I continually seek personal development in to allow me to support those who need it, I constantly look to update my knowledge in areas and topics of learning to help me.

The courses that I have completed include:

Open university – Introduction to counselling

Commitment to learning

It doesn’t end there I am currently studying a level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (RQF), a level 4 Accredited Qualification in Child Sexual Exploitation (ACSEP) and constantly working on my CPD, in an ever evolving world we cannot afford to allow our knowledge to stand still.

I am continuously looking at where I can improve my knowledge as I believe that we always have capacity to improve our knowledge and skills.
